Full Form Of AMIE Course

AMIE: Associate Member of the Institute of Engineers

AMIE stands for Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers.  It is a professional certification granted by the Institution of Engineers India Limited (IEIL).  

It is an important degree for students who are unable to earn a regular engineering degree from a technical university or engineering college in India.  

This certification is considered equivalent to an engineering degree, which includes major streams of engineering such as electronics, mechanical, and computer science.  

After completing this certification, a student can opt for a Masters's degree from any recognized university.  He can also work in various government or private sector companies in his area of ​​expertise.

  There are two types of membership in this certification:

  1) Technician Member: Its minimum criterion is to pass at least 12th standard with a minimum set of 45%.

  2) Senior Technician Member: There are two mandatory qualifications to become a Senior Technician Member.

  Note: The candidate must be at least 18 years of age and the candidate must have a diploma or degree in Technology or Engineering recognized by the Council.

  AMIE examinations are held twice a year in summer and winter or June and December respectively.  The date and details of the examination have been released in the Technical Journal.  IEIL has divided the exam into two sections;  Section A and Section B.

  Section A is mandatory for all candidates.  In Section B, the candidate has to select a specific branch of the engineering program.  After passing Section A, the candidate can appear for section B and if he clears at least 5 papers of section B, he becomes eligible for laboratory experiments.  The project work consists of 10 papers;  Six compulsory and three optional.

  AMIE is completely equivalent to a bachelor's degree in engineering, even a certified student can write for examinations such as:

  Civil Services

  •   Indian Engineering Services (IES)
  •   Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  •   Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  •   Graduate Management Entrance Examination (GMAT)
  •   General Entrance Examination (CAT) 

Working Environments

A Candidate is eligible for government and similarly for private-sector jobs also.

Amie include Two membership certification

A: Technical member: In this part, A candidate should be eligible if he has secured 12th pass with an aggregate of 45%
B: Senior Technical member: there are mainly two qualifications is necessary before becoming a member.

AMIE takes time to complete

For Diploma Candidates: The minimum time in demand for the completion of this certification is 2 Years. That is equivalent to the duration of 4 semesters
For 12th-passed/+2 Candidates: In this Category, minimum time in demand is 3 Years, and that is equivalent to the duration of 6 semesters.

AMIE Exams In 

The examination is held two times a year. i.e summer in the month of June and winter in the month of December.

Division of Examination

The Exams is divided into two sections

Category 1: This category is mandatory for all the candidates.
Category 2: In this category, a candidate can choose a core branch of engineering on the basis of his/her field of interest.

Note: 1 candidate can appear in category 2 only after Clearing Category 1.

Like any regular courses of bachelor’s degrees, a candidate can apply for the Master’s degree program within the same field.
